We all have problems. Some big and some small. And problems seem to cut into our daily happiness. Is there an optimal way to handle our problems? Perhaps. In the Bible, there appears to be a blueprint on how to handle life’s problems. It’s broken down into two steps.
Step One: “Ask and keep on asking and it will be given to you; seek and keep on seeking and you will find; knock and keep on knocking and the door will be opened to you” (Matthew 7:7 Amplified Bible).
Step Two: “in every situation [no matter what the circumstances] be thankful and continually give thanks to God; for this is the will of God for you in Christ Jesus” (1 Thessalonians 5:18 Amplified Bible).
My interpretation of Step One is that if you have a problem, you should ask God to provide you with the solution. Psychologically, this focuses your mind into goal-directed thinking. And as we know, goals are powerful motivational tools.
Next, you should go to work seeking information about your problem via Internet, books, articles, or other people. After you gathered a ton of information regarding your problem, begin narrowing the information to the most critical. Then formulate your plan.
Lastly, you want to knock the problem out of the park by doing something about it. At this stage, you are going to apply your plan with massive action.
My interpretation of Step Two is as follows: Whenever you are caught in the jaws of a serious problem, there is a tendency to get depressed and lethargic. You may mope around with the life sucked out of you, thereby making it difficult for you to solve your problem. But there is an antidote to this.
The antidote is giving thanks. Giving thanks for the good things that you still have in your life. This forces your mind to focus on the positive things that are going on around you, thereby lifting your mood and energizing you. With energy, you can solve your problems.
As you can see, the Bible blueprint for solving problems is like a well-oiled machine. No matter what your problems are, financial, health, psychological, relationships — the Bible blueprint can handle them! It’s like putting wood into a wood chipper. Do you have a problem? Give it a try!
